Siam Park’s first surf school
Clayton Mark Niennaber, South Africa’s national coach in France, Brazil and USA championships, gives surf lessons for 20 surfers.
There was a surf session organised by Billabong and Siam Park on October 20th. Surfers who wanted to test the Clayton surf boards at Siam Beach received two 40 minute surf sessions of both left and right waves and surf lessons from Clayton Mark Niennaber, the 34 year old who helped 20 surfers from Tenerife develop their surf skills.
His innovative technique has influenced teaching methods, showing both basic and intermediate levels. Surfers took full advantage of every shape and form of the waves especially for the surf session.
The most up-to-date teaching techniques were used and the participants communicated constantly with the instructor by using a helmet equipped with speakers. This way the information given to the surfer by Clayton was immediate whilst the surfer is surfing, so they could correct positions and improve on the spot. Clayton believes in doing the basics well; show students how to read the wave and how the board works. He encourages correct body movement at the proper parts of the wave.
Siam Park produces 42 different types of waves, among them the highest man made wave in the world and available 365 days a year. The Wave Palace is also available for private hire by prior arrangement.
He said “I’ve surfed in a wave pool before in SA but this one was bigger and better. They are definitely getting it right. It was overhead and you could seriously smash the lip. As a training tool it is definitely invaluable, when can I go again?”

Opal, Marta and Bety swim happily in their new home “Sea Lion Island” in Siam Park

Three female sea lions aged 3, 11 and 21 years old have finally arrived in their new home at Siam Park. It will take several more journeys this week until all 17 sea lions have been moved from Loro Parque to Siam Park, making it one of the most important homes for these mammals in the whole of Spain. The sea lions are transported with great care, using a special vehicle fitted just for them and accompanied by a vet and 5 professionals responsible for their welfare.
The sea lions have quickly acclimatized to their new home which has been designed especially for them and which forms a mini water park where they can relax on the beach and rocks in the sunshine or body surf as they catch the waves made by their own wave. The sea lion pool can be found at the entrance of the park in the plaza. They really set the scene for a day out in Siam Park as they show everyone what a great time can be had playing in and out of the water. The sea lion pool, with a volume of 1,500m2 of sea water, has its own nursery area where mothers will give their babies swimming lessons and an area where the carers can look after animals individually if they need to separate them. The Thai Tea House has a great view across the sea lion pool, where you can grab a coffee or a bite to eat for breakfast before hitting the attractions. Thanks to the great care the sea lions have received in Loro Parque, over the past few years there have been quite a few additions to the family!
The “Zalophus Californian” sea lions weigh between 61 and 255kg and can reach up to 2m in length. Their diet is made up for fresh fish which they love, squid and cuttlefish, eating up to 9 kilos a day! They are extremely sociable animals and live in groups in and out of the water. With the female sea lions, their pregnancy can last a year, they only have one baby and have a tendency to give birth in June. The male sea lions are much bigger than the females and can weigh up to 400 kg. All the sea lions in Siam Park are still to reach their mature weight.

Siam Park´s first inhabitants arrived at the park. The Carps are already living in the Floating Market's water
Siam Park has received the first Carp fish from Loro Parque, 160 at the moment, that will live in the 1,000 cubic metres of water in the Floating Market. Known as common Carp, (Cyprinus carpio), they are fresh water fish and relatives of the golden Carp. They have been transported in special tanks accompanied by a biologist who took care of placing the fish in their new home in a process that took 5 hours. He will later follow up to make sure the fish have settled into their new surroundings. Their diet is mostly aquatic plants and they can reach up to 1.2m long and 40kg in weight, although the average is generally 60-90 cm long and around 9 kg. The Carp fish are thought to bring good luck and they can live to be up to 50 years old.
All the buildings of the Floating Market were designed by professor Ruetai and they really are authentic as the materials have been shipped over from Thailand. The houses come from an area about an hour and a half outside of Bangkok called Ayutaya and along with them also came carpenters who worked on the materials using all of their local skills and knowledge to make the village as it is today with all of the details crafted by hand.
The Floating Market of Siam Park is the biggest representation of Siamese architecture outside of Asia and it houses the changing rooms, lockers and coffee bar, transporting its visitors to far away lands.

Jungle Snake, adventure in the Siam Park jungle. The snakes are waiting …
Siam Park is getting ready to open in 2008 and currently we are working on the final phases of decoration and technical trials. The park offers brand new and innovative attractions as well as the classical water rides that all have a special Siam touch.
The Jungle Snake is one of the rides that’s ready for everyone to enjoy. This attraction twists and turns in a jungle setting and can be enjoyed by the whole family. It can be ridden in individual or double tubes and as you plunge down on a thin film of water you slide through an amazing adventure. Each of the slides inside the Jungle Snake offers a different ride through open air sections with great views and other sections that are enclosed and in total darkness. The slide is designed to look like entwined snakes that are hidden amongst the lush greenery so that riders are not sure where the journey will take them and this really adds to the sense of mystery and adventure they will experience.
A key part of the design is to make sure that the attraction harmonizes with the setting and so the slides are set on a slope covered with plants, bushes and trees that camouflage the structure underneath. The height requirement is 1.25m and will be loved by all ages. It will without doubt be an experience they won’t forget.
